Hawaii Family Dental provided me excellent care from October 2020 until June 2024. After that date, they moved some of their best doctors to a busier location and left a handful of practitioners at this office. After that point, the care I received met the standards of practice by a narrow margin and was surrounded by poor bedside manner, long wait times, and rude practitioners. I experienced hygienists who assumed I did not understand their primary language because of my race, who gossiped about the state of oral health as if my teeth and gums were fingernails they were polishing in a nail salon. I do not believe that one bad fish can spoil the pond, but I intend to receive treatment from another location from now on. I think many people can find their work to be satisfactory for their personal standards if they are used to the same level of consideration as the staff provide, but I am not part of that group and I seek a level of care consistent with what I have been trained go provide as a healthcare provider myself.

Sabrina reminded me I was to be taking antibiotics before my procedure and help affiliate with getting the needed paperwork done and rescheduling my appointment. Her positive attitude is so refreshing, she has a gentle touch and comforting presence. I appreciate her skills and her wonderful personality and positive attitude. I love that she shares her children with me.

I had a tooth ache and tried this new office for the first time. They were friendly, accommodating with securing my appointment, and efficient. Dr. Moon was the best - first time we met, but felt comfortable talking with him. His personality is great - positive, smiling, fast working, and just a nice guy from Boston. Wishing this practice continued success. P.S. I have a follow up appointment on Friday!

Nina was the hygenist who did my teeth cleaning on 9 Jun 2025. She explained that as we age our teeth get discolored because the enamel which protects our teeth thins and the dentin below it turns yellow which in all the years of going to the dentist; no one ever explained this to me before. That's another reason crunchy & hard food may make teeth more sensitive too. She was professional & comical w a nice sense of humor that relaxed me and lowered my blood pressure! NINA finished the scraping and polishing, flossing and flouride treatment. Also since I had a temp crown, (my 2 bridges were not replaceable) she was careful working around it . She also cleaned my upper flipper and night guard I wear when I sleep to prevent bruxism (teeth grinding). I only hope that next appt in Dec w Nina will be faster for people who she does after me; since I have 2 less teeth now! TMI. Oh well, thats aging for u! Malakai and Lourdes also so helpful at the front desk since I am a veteran and they know the process best; short staffing, employees out ill or turn overs in dentists creates rescheduling of appts, request for new approval from VA, etc. Staff at front desk always try to call me if a cancellation comes available to get me in sooner. I appreciate that they value my time! Even tho I am retired, I keep a very busy schedule. They r a very busy dental office and am grateful they take me as a veteran. MAHALO to all. See u in December Nina, mahalo plenty. BTW Nina is also.my youngest granddaughter's name so I can't forget her name as a hygienist. She gave me back my smile!

My mom Juanita had gotten braces about 2 1/2 years ago, finally wanting to fix her smile. Dr. Tinhan was upfront about everything that she was going to experience and sure enough, everything went as planned. She got them off today and now has the smile that she can be proud of. The rest of the staff was amazing to her as well. Danielle was always there by her side to get her through this journey. We want to thank everyone there that assisted my mom.

This has been my first year of dental care at Hawaii Family Dental. The previous eight plus years I stayed with a different clinic. Unfortunately, dental services in Hilo, Hawaii at my previous dental care clinic became obvious expanding their patient size was more important than providing a level of dental care that the patient deserved. I am so impressed by the professionalism and extent of care at Hawaii Family Dental. The dental staff there are an example of really outstanding customer service. It is refreshing how the provider clearly communicates with the dental patient the service recommended to be following an in depth examination. My only regret after my first year with Hawaii Family Dental is I’m sorry I hadn’t made the move sooner to their clinic. It has always been my practice to schedule dental care at six month intervals. It is so refreshing to work with their staff who are certainly customer focused. Their service is complete and exceptionally friendly. I am totally satisfied with their dental care process that is outstanding in every respect. There has been no evidence that their primary goal is to get you out of the office as quickly as possible. They overtly have convinced me their priority is providing the very best dental care possible in the area. I am impressed with the wonderful dental services “Adam” has provided, as well as other members on their treatment team!! They have convinced me that my care is important and will do what ever needs to be done to meet those dental needs. I highly recommend Hawaii Family Dental in Hilo, Hawaii. I anticipate a long term dental relationship with this new dental care team.
