I had an appointment today at Hawaii Family Dental at the Waiakea Villas. Adam (the hygienist ) has a very professional & friendly demeanor & was a blessing. Dr Young expertly and painlessly checked my teeth, filled 3 or more cavities, was quite attentive to any concerns I had & did an excellent job. I would recommend this practice to anyone!

Efficient and friendly staff. My dental hygienist of 8 years, Laura is always very thorough and charismatic. My x-ray tech, Char was caring and took extra steps to pad the mouth inserts to prevent scraping against the inside of the mouth. My dentist, Dr Cheng was knowledgeable and established an amazing rapport. I highly recommend Hawaii Family Dental

These people are amazing! Checking in was weirdly y2k tech with the virtual checkin on an old tv screen and little webcam. It was efficient and quick. The young wahine who took my X-rays was very kind and worked the machines like she was Trinity in the matrix starring Keanu Reeves. Mr. Dentist dude was rad. Super chill vibes, very knowledgeable, straight forward and pretty eyes. Love him. Lastly, the lady who checked me out was groovy. She likes cats from what I could see with her office decorations. She scheduled me for my other appointments and it was awesome. Her door makes a funny sound sometimes like a light shaking from the weird machine in the next room and it was weirdly comforting. I’d highly recommend this place. Oh also the paint colors and entire building is stuck in 1996 which is awesome. No complaints here!

vanessa and sarah are the best hygienists. they are very knowledgeable and friendly. I felt comfortable the moment I sat in their chairs and I am genuinely grateful to have gotten them both for my dental care.. Definitely recommend them for future cleanings!

This was my second visit here, and I loved it. Fast and efficient. They listen to your symptoms and get right to it. I am happy to make this my dental home.

Grossly mismanaged. Dr. Mellow seemed to put of my complaint until I got upset enough to say that something isn’t right and I will not have a final crown until we find out why after a root canal my tooth hurts 3 months later (still). Had a root canal in June fast forward end of Sept (I have called multiple times to check on the status of the crown, was it delivered? Any update?) nope. Come in today and dentist says I wrote I did the final impression but do you remember? I do not remember I’ve been under the impression my mold was at the lab and said crown was being made from mold. I brought up concern to assistant about pain and wanting to make sure it wasn’t the root canal tooth that was hurting. This was not shared with the dentist so I voiced up. I think I need a second opinion, I understand the concept of a root canal. I’m not supposed to have pain. After finally sorting out this never ending tail chasing. I have to come back, have a second root canal, then maybe just maybe we can get an impression and get final delivery.

I have had about 3 visits to this dental office, and I have been impressed every time with the efficiency, warmth, and thorough education offered by each of my providers. I am amazed at how the staff and physicians stay on time and make sure we have everything we need. I wish we had more offices/dentists, as I can only get appointments booked 6 months in advance. But Iʻm super happy to be a part of this office. Dr. Tupua, Micah, and Nina, plus all the front desk staff have been super helpful and kind. Iʻm always excited to go to the dentist!

Jernell Delenia was the best! Very gentle. Always explaining what she is doing and what's next. The front desk was awesome and Bollywood looking handsome dentist was very good. Great explanations again. I'm a Hawaii Family Dental client for life. Cool waiting room and virtual checking system had me going right in. Great job team! And I learned the meaning of life. The front desk staff always makes me feel welcomed and accommodates me with the best service of kindness and mindfulness for me to Feel that I matter! I always enjoyed the dentist and assistant also.

Adam is the best dental hygienist I have ever been to. I used to be very apprehensive of the dentist office, but he always puts me at ease. He us very thorough and accommodating. He is very caring and uplifting.

Today was my first cleaning here and everyone I encountered was very kind and welcoming. The care I received was excellent. I didn’t get everyone’s names but Cheryl was my hygienist and Brittany assisted with scheduling upon check out.

The team at PKP was honestly great. They made the experience awesome. Thank you Nina for taking good care of me, and making me feel super comfortable.

Appreciate my time at my appt with Dr Shen. She was very informative and concerned about my dental condition and informed me of what ithings i needed to avoid and keep doing. All in all very nice meeting with her and look forward to seeing her again. The staff was very kind and everything was done in a timely professional manner. Mahalo plenny, Family Dental!

The Dental anxiety that I have developed over the years was alleviated by the Hygienist (sorry, I forgot her name) and Dr. Marusko with their Happy, Calm demeanors. Thank you to the Whole staff for their cheerfulness.

The service was fast. I dont have to wait for so long.i got check in right away. My hygienist did great job in cleaning my teeth. Dr. Moon has excellent bedside manner. He is very caring and spends enough time throughly explaining the conditions. I felt like he is treating patients as a family member.

Vanessa my Dental Hygienist is great. She checks out my teeth and around my cheeks and neck thoroughly. Very careful and light with her hands. Great to talk to and explains in detail what she is about to do. One of the best Hygienist I've had.

I actually think there has been a great improvement in your reception area. Everyone is much more pleasant and friendly. I’m glad that HFD has become customer friendly. 100% better.

I went for my first appointment with Hawaii Family Dental in the Prince Kuhio Plaza last week. I feel "dentist anxiety" but my nervousness and fear decreased as soon as I stepped into their office. The front counter staff greeted me and asked how they could help. Next, the dental assistant helped me with X-rays, teeth photos, and general information. She was warm and gentle, again, putting me more at ease. The dentist that examined me was Dr. Tupua who greeted me in a friendly manner. She and her assistant worked well in unison during the very thorough examination. Dr. Tupua explained the condition of my teeth and gums clearly and also went over procedures that would help. After the examination, I was back at the front counter and was given a copy of the dental procedures needed along with the cost. The dental clerk was very helpful going pretty much step by step what would be involved. Overall, a very good experience. I am thankful for Hawaii Family Dental at the PKP in Hilo.

I’ve been going to Family Dental for a few years and am always impressed. The staff are incredible and friendly. My hygienist is gentle on my sensitive gums and understands more than most how to make a cleaning as non-painful as possible. Highly recommend!

September 22, 2025. The staff receptionists, Rayna was so nice receiving me. She actually made copies of my personal work sheets, i ran out of, Thank You Rayna! Dr Mellow filled my filling to relieve my, discomfort right away! She Dr Mellow is the Best Dentist I have ever had care from! Dr. Mellow knew of my financial difficulty. Dr. Mellows staff step up. With, the help of Bobbie in billing and Rayna the kind gracious receptionist. Helped sign me up with the affordible, “Carefree Dental Plan” . com ”. Thus taking away my embarrassment of insufficient funds. Not, able to pay. Dr. Mellow with Kindness and goodness in her heart, took upon her precious time and knowledge and, treated my other sore tooth in addition. She, reshaped my, 2 front teeth to match my partial, Dr. Mellow, filled my teeth thus NO More Pain! Dr Mellow’s years of experience now allowed my partial to, snap in, and have, a great bite for, eating! ( Thank You Dr. Mellow So Much) . * Note the assistant and Dr Mellow adjusted the dental chair to accommodate and relieve pressure off, my back and neck. (even with an neck pillow.) * With, Unbelievable kindness both Dr. Mellow and dental assistance BOUTH STOID UP over me, to administer dental procedures. Not the norm WOW * Knowing I have, trouble with saliva and Novicane, running down my throat with difficult swallowing. Dr. Mellow, patiently monitored and cleared, any, discomfort I had. I’m always greeted by the nice receptionist. She arranged my treatments and told me my estimate. Upon seeing The best most kind humble dentist Dr Mellow, She discussed my options and asked her assistants, Then, Dr. Mellow, asked assistant, to go to billing to get the costs for the day’s treatment and future treatments, also. To my knowledge, i didn’t”t have dental Insurance. And, billing department, confirmed it. To my embarrassment, I, could not pay for the future treatment , but only today’s. Bobbi from accounting inquired. I asked, “Do you know of a cheap dental insurance company?” Bobbi in account billing department took me to her desk , and reviewed , my insurance past, id’s insurance, coverage. I just called the insurance company. But they were closed, because of, CST She got on my phone to help me apply for my new application. BOBBi, got on her online computer, and registered me. Finding a suggested, dental insurance plan from a very low cost insurer. I say low cost plan! BOBBI, printed out my, new paper member’s card, and described, even, that eye, travel and purchases discount’s are now available through my new dental insurance company plan, online. WOW! 5 Star rating is not high enough! DR. MELLOW and BOBBI, I’m expressing, my deep, GRATITUDE , and GRATEFULNESS to you both! 😀 Much thanks; Much

An excellent experience. Dr. Li was very fastidious in addressing an issue with the new crown and patiently gave an understandable explanation of why it might have happened.

Dr. Park is a great dentist! She did some adjustments to my upper partial today and it feels much better when I eat. Her nurses yesterday did some adjusting to my partial so I could put my partial on and take it out of my mouth more easily. They too helped a lot. Having a tooth replaced on my upper partial yesterday and more adjustments today was a good experience for me. Hawaii Family Dental team is soooooooo appreciated! Thank you everyone! The sweetest caring dentist assistant went way above her job duties, by assisting the front desk receptionist by asking info on referring me out to Oahu for A Root Canal that needed to be done by a specialist, that specialist only covered my insurance on the entire islands. I'm so grateful for her help, My insurance paid for most of my entire procedure. It's the little things in life that matters the most. She completely made my stress level at ease. She needs a reward recognition and a higher pay. She has the most compassion for her patients, I’m so Thankful for her expertise and her dedication as a dental assistant. I see her achieving her goals as the next Dentistry in the future.

Great dentist. Professional employees. They are well knowledgeable. They are fast and efficient. They make sure you’re comfortable. They offer you a free toothbrush and toothpaste at cleaning appointments. I also love they take your blood pressure before starting. Another thing is you can listen to their music.

I was seen and taken for my deep cleaning very quickly. I was in and out of my appointment in 20 minutes. Everyone was polite and respectful.

Dr. Kang performed my root canal today. Since I'm currently pregnant I could not get the usual anesthesia but Dr.Kang still made every effort to ensure that I was as comfortable as possible during the procedure and I barely felt a thing. The staff at this facility in general are phenomenal 👏 everyone is so nice and polite. 10/10 recommend for all your dental needs

The dentist explained that since my teeth were not a problem and my gums looked fine to him there wasn’t anything he could do except refer me to a periodontal specialist to see what I have going on. My gums have not stopped peeling for over a year now. It’s starting to hurt and aches again. Not his fault.

Nice dental office. We have been going here since 2020 for general dental care and have been satisfied over all. Recently had a crown replaced and it went well.

Vanessa was great she explained in detail about brushing my gums upward, and also about plaque. So far she is the only one who explained in detail. She also told me about leaf suction, it was so much so comfortable. I would like for her do do my next cleaning.
