Dr. Fackender was 1 of 55 in the country to receive the Health Professions Scholarship through the United States Army. He served four years as an active-duty dentist in a Medical Company Area Support and has received multiple awards while deployed overseas, including the Army Commendation Medal.

When not in the office, Dr. Fackender can be found surfing his local breaks on the south shore, hiking with his golden retriever, or fly fishing for ‘ō’io.
