Dr. Amber Nguyen

A good laugh might not be what you expect from a dental visit, but Dr. Amber Nguyen makes room for one. “I like to bring laughter to the office, to my coworkers and to my patients,” she says. Behind the humor is real care for her work and the people in her chair, and a lesson she holds close: communication “is not just about speaking. It is the listening and the pause when it matters.”

After earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree, Dr. Nguyen completed a general practice residency at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, whose dental clinic cares for patients with a wide range of needs, including those who must be treated in a hospital setting. Now a general dentist with Hawaii Family Dental, she is eager to give back to the community.

Born in Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen admits she’s “biased” when it comes to travel: her favorite trip is back to “the motherland.” Closer to home, she hopes to explore more of Oʻahu and the neighbor islands. Free time means trying new restaurants, watching the sunset, playing video games, and rewatching favorites like Psych and Modern Family. Good food with great people is what brings her joy, and her pick for a last meal is the spicy ahi poke tempura bowl from Tanioka’s. Her outlook fits in one line: “Be better, be happy, enjoy life with people I love.”
