As a kid, Dr. Kurtis Kometani wanted to be an engineer, a teacher, and a doctor—“everything,” he says. Today, what brings him the most joy is helping people, and he carries one of the greatest lessons he has learned into every visit: “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” For Dr. Kometani, good dentistry starts with getting to know the person in the chair.

Before joining Hawaii Family Dental, Dr. Kometani served as a general dentist in the U.S. Navy, caring for the men and women who serve our country. He brings that same spirit of service to HFD, where he is committed to helping build a strong, healthy culture for his team. His goals are simple, in and out of the office: to be a good person, father, and mentor.

Born and raised in Honolulu, Dr. Kometani spends his free time with his wife, their two children, and the family’s Australian Shepherd—often at the beach. Local Hawaiian music is usually on his playlist, and he never tires of rewatching The Office or Interstellar. He loves experiencing new things, especially through travel. Japan is his favorite destination (sushi would be his last meal), and Bali is high on his list to explore.
